A brief note...
Hello again parents,
We hope you are all well.
Just a few notes for you this week. Our Reading/Phonics and Math curriculum is going well in both classes. Both the Rockets and Bearcubs are experiencing success and are learning a lot! In Science we have moved on to learning about pumpkins. We are measuring their circumference and weighing them. We are collecting all of our data and compiling a chart to compare them all. The goal is that each student will know their pumpkin well enough to find it when we have our great pumpkin hunt.
Tomorrow is Diwali, the Indian celebration of lights! We are very excited for the event. The students should not come to school in their traditional dress. Rather, we will begin to change into them after lunch around 12:30. If you have any questions please send us an email. See you tomorrow!

Hello!
After some technical difficulties with our camera we have pictures of our October birthday students and teachers! We are having a great time celebrating.
We have some fun events coming up including our Diwali celebration on Tuesday, October 28. Some of the parents in our class will be coming in to help with activities in the afternoon, we are looking forward to learning about other cultures in the classroom!
Our classes have been going well. In Reading and Phonics the Bear Cubs are doing quite well with their new Primer and Pre-Primer books. The Rockets are having equal success on the short "e" vowel books. Math currently entails Drops in the Bucket half sheets, salt tray numerals (numeral sequencing), calendar, story board problems, and fine motor one-to-one correspondence activities (moving objects and counting each one at a time). We have completed our Science section on Early Explorers and are beginning to learn about apples. We will start with learning the different kinds of apples as well as reading some apple stories (i.e., Johnny Appleseed). Mr. Clark will begin to work on a family tree, but in order to do so we need photos! ** Please check the homework assignments for this week at the bottom of the blog!!!
Thank you all for a wonderful back to school night. We both had a great time sharing what we do with your students!

Hot off the press from the Bearcubs and Rockets
Hello all,
We hope your week has been as fun as ours! We have a number of birthdays in our classes this month. On Thursday, October 2nd, we celebrated Aditya Sood's birthday and later in this month we will celebrate a few more: Jacob Gault (10/9), Leah Sirovyak (10/13) and Mr. Walker (10/14). Just a reminder, birthday treats have to be store bought; and it is always nice to have a choice. Good ideas include: whole fruit popsicles, muffins (preferably two or more choices), or fruit bars.
This week the Rockets and Bear Cubs will switch back to Mr. Walker's class for Drops in the Bucket math sheets while continuing to do story problems and numeral sequencing with salt trays (this provides a tactile learning experience in addition to auditory/visual). Mr. Clark will continue to do calendar, which includes matching and patterning activities, as well as continuing to teach wipe-off dot-to-dot activities to enhance dexterity and fine-motor skills. In Reading and Phonics the kids are proving to be quick studies as the Bearcubs transition away from Dick and Jane and up into higher level Primer and Pre-Primer books (we have just begun reading these after a few days of studying new vocabulary words), while the Rockets continue to move through their short vowel books. In Science with Mr. Walker we will continue our Early Explorers section for the next week while Mr. Clark continues with Spanish, and the "all about me"Theme.
As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns. Be well!

A few weeks in...
Greetings Parents!
The school year is progressing quite well and we have all had a lot of fun getting to know each other. We are enjoying class and excited about moving into the next sections of our curriculum.
Mr. Clark has begun teaching both classes our Drops in the Bucket math sheets while continuing his calendar lessons. The Bears and Rockets are learning about pattern-building and numeral sequencing with Mr. Walker as well as manipulative-based story problems. Reading and Phonics continues in its success as we progress through our short vowel books and the stories of Dick and Jane. Additionally, our students are quickly grasping new Phonics concepts such as the magic "e" and various phonemes and blends (ee, oo, ou and fl, pl, th, sh). The kids are enjoying Spanish with Mr. Clark and are excited about the "All About Me" book they have begun to work on. In Science with Mr. Walker each class has completed a collage of Mammals vs. non-Mammals as the culmination of that section and are now beginning our section on Early Explorers (the use of sailing ships, the Mayflower and other early settlers, as well as setting up a colony).
Mr. Clark and Mr. Walker have thoroughly enjoyed having your students in class. This year promises to be a great one! As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. Be well!
*Reminder: Mr. Clark will soon begin a family tree project with both classes so please keep looking around for pictures of your student with his/her family.
